Then Gilbert's voice broke the quiet, low and calm. "There's a storm warning. Where are you going?"

I hesitated for a second, then replied, "Just something I need to take care of. I'll be back soon."

There was no way I could bring up paying him back now. He'd never accept it.

Gilbert was quiet for a moment, then said, "Where are you going? I'll drive you."

I was about to say no, but he cut in, "Don't read too much into it. I'm picking up Vivian anyway. It's on the way."
