The Mitchell estate's marble conservatory had always been my favorite place as a child—a sanctuary of light and whispered secrets among exotic plants. Now, it would serve a darker purpose. I adjusted the tiny recording device David had given me, concealed within the delicate silver bracelet on my wrist. My heart hammered against my ribs as I watched Marcus—Ryan—through the glass doors, deep in conversation with the event planner for next week's charity gala.

"You can still back out," David murmured beside me, his eyes never leaving Ryan's figure. "We have the footage from your apartment. That might be enough."
