A dead silence fell over the room.

Marcus's face was deathly pale. He instinctively pulled Noah into his arms.

"Ethan..."

Claire took a step forward, her voice dry.

"Why are you here? Weren't you going to the company?"

"Why am I here?"

I cut her off, my voice so calm it surprised even me.

"My son was brought to the hospital, prepped for an illegal surgery. As his father, shouldn't I be here?"

"No, you're misunderstanding."

She defended herself desperately, fine beads of sweat breaking out on her forehead.

"I didn't authorize Owen for surgery. I just wanted the doctors…
