I didn't agree right away. Tears brimmed in my eyes, my voice breaking with grief as I said, "Bertram, are you really going to be this heartless?"

Bertram's expression faltered. He realized just how determined I was and started to say something, maybe to take it all back, but Michelle's quiet cough pulled his attention away.

Finally, with a shaking hand, he signed his name on the divorce agreement.

"Cheryl, Michelle is your real sister. I'm doing this for your sake," he said.
