I took stock of what I had.

A fully paid-off apartment, about a thousand square feet.

Around a million in the bank—wait, over 1.3 million now, since my ex-boss just sent 300 thousand in hush money.

Not bad. I could coast for a while.

That night, my husband Michael Shaw called saying an important boss from his company was coming for dinner, so I should make a few extra dishes.
