At the kitchen sink, Hayden gripped the counter and tried to steady his breathing.

He'd gone inside to check on Edmund and Finn when he overheard his son's small voice:I know I'm no fun.

The words had cut straight through him.

His boy was lonely.

And Hayden, his father, felt like the shittiest dad in the world.

He wanted to storm into the living room, scoop Edmund up, and promise he was the most perfect boy that had ever lived.

Instead, he stayed rooted to the spot, tears pricking his eyes.

But then he'd heard Finn's voice.
