The second we got home, I bounced over to Jennifer, grinning.

"So, can you give me that two million dollars Mrs. Rivers sent over? As, you know, an allowance?"

Jennifer was always strict.

I could have the designer clothes and the luxury cars, but my allowance was tied to my grades, and she rarely gave me a dime in cash.

This time, however, she was livid. "Mrs. Rivers? Don't call her that.

"That old hag! She treats her son like gold, but she treats my daughter like dirt!

"If this were a hundred years ago, she'd be setting him up…
