Chapter 3
After doing all that, it felt as if the last of her strength drained away, and her phone slipped from her hand. She stared at the ceiling and stayed awake until dawn. The lawyer worked fast. The very next day, the divorce agreement and a stack of photos were placed in front of Luna.
"These past few days, Mr. Stone has been taking Ms. Lynn everywhere with him. He even signed her to the company and is promoting her as one of its top streamers with the best resources available." The lawyer laid the photos out one by one. "He bought out three luxury stores for her and spent about 1.7 million dollars on a custom image makeover."
Seeing Luna stare at the photos without blinking, the lawyer hesitated. "The gossip around them hasn't died down. It's only getting worse. And even... some people are saying you aren't good enough for Mr. Stone and should step aside for Ms. Lynn." Luna's hand jerked, and the photos scattered across the floor. "Not good enough...?"
Once, a gossip account mocked her for being arrogant. Less than two hours after the post went up, the person behind it got fired. No other company dared hire him after that, and he ended up slinking out of Capital City in disgrace. But now, the phrase "Luna Quinn isn't good enough for Leo Stone" had been sitting on the trending list day after day. Who was allowing that was obvious at a glance.
She grabbed a pen, closed her eyes, and signed the divorce agreement. "As for those two..." She tossed the pen aside, like a boulder was crushing her chest. "Say it this once and never again. If I hear too much more, I'll feel dirty just listening." The lawyer nodded and quietly left.
The study was empty again, leaving Luna alone with the divorce agreement, which she stared at for a long time. Remembering that the forecast called for rain today, she grabbed an umbrella on the way out before heading to Stone Media Tower.
The livestream studios were far busier than usual. Ava Lynn's posters lined the way from the company entrance all the way to the elevators. Compared to the days she'd been ignored at a tiny agency, Ava was now being treated like the star of the show. From a distance, Luna spotted Leo in the middle of the crowd. The man who had been giving her the silent treatment and vanishing on her was now standing quietly behind Ava, acting as her strongest shield while everyone around them showered her with praise.
Ava looked shy and sweet, just about to lean into Leo's arms, when she saw Luna approaching and her smile stiffened. But instead of hiding, Ava gently pushed Leo toward Luna. "Leo, Ms. Quinn is here to see you. You should go home. You've already done more than enough for me."
"Ms. Quinn." Ava stepped beneath the key light with a sweet smile. "Last time, I didn't think about your feelings. Dancing only for Leo really wasn't appropriate. I've practiced a few new dances. You and Leo can watch them together, so please don't be mad anymore, okay?"
She looked so gentle and innocent that it made Luna look like some bitter, resentful wife by comparison. Luna couldn't even be bothered to look. "Sorry, I don't watch kiddie dances."
The second the words left her mouth, someone clamped down hard on her wrist. Leo was smiling, but there wasn't a trace of warmth behind his glasses. "Luna, today is Ava's fresh start. Can you act a little more mature for once?"
Luna's eyes burned, but she tilted her head back and forced the tears down. She even managed a smile. "Sure. Sign this, and I'll leave right away."
