The next morning, I got up as usual, washed my face, brushed my teeth, and sat down at the table to eat the burnt egg Mary had made.

Charles sat across from me, looking at me. "Are you going to the office today?"

"Yeah," I said, finishing my milk and flashing him a smile. "I can't skip work because of something so minor, right?"
