Alex didn't try to keep me for long.

Later that afternoon, HR called me in for a talk. "Emily, are you sure you want to leave?"

"Yeah, I'm sure," I replied.

"So, why are you leaving?"

"Just looking to grow."

HR nodded, then pulled up their laptop.

"Who's gonna take over your stuff?"

"James is the senior backend dev. He should handle it."

HR typed his name into the form.

"What about the handover period? Labor law says it's thirty days."

"That's fine."

"Alright. Make sure you and James go over the handover details."

Later that afternoon, I found James.
