Chapter 1
In my previous life, my sister was sexually assaulted. I wanted to call the police, but she wouldn't let me.
She gently rubbed her stomach and said, "He was drunk—he didn't know what he was doing. If you call the cops, his entire future will be destroyed. How can you be so cruel?"
Cruel? Seriously?
Later, to run away with that attacker, she drugged my food, nearly killing me.
But my mom just told me to let it go.
This time around, I'd show them what cruel really looked like.

I jolted awake on the couch at home. Right then, my phone lit up—Mom was calling.
Just seeing "Mom" flash on the screen made my gut clench instantly. I held on for a moment, but couldn't fight it off. I dashed to the bathroom and puked.
The mother-daughter relationship was supposed to be the closest in the world. But for me, it was so twisted that even seeing "Mom" popping up made me want to throw up.
The phone rang three times before I finally picked up.
Mom screamed from the other end, "Are you dead or what? Took you ages to pick up. What good are you if you're never around when I need you? You might as well be dead."
To her, I was worth less than nothing. So, the moment Yvonne Lane, my sister, needed a new kidney, she didn't hesitate for a second before making me the donor.
Even though I'd traveled back in time, those vicious words never faded, and the hatred burning in my heart was as strong as ever.
I could still see myself, half-dead in a hospital bed after my kidney was taken. Meanwhile, my mom and boyfriend flooded Yvonne with all their care and attention, treating her like she was the only one who mattered.
Later, Yvonne's son ripped out my oxygen tube, leaving me to suffocate and die.
But Mom just wrapped Yvonne in her arms and said, "Good thing it was Sophia who died. If anything happened to you, I don't know how I'd go on."
Jason Hill, my boyfriend, chimed in, "Don't be so upset, Mrs. Lane. You still have Yvonne."
Yvonne clutched at her heart, tears streaming down her face. "But Sophia's gone. I miss her so much."
Mom hurried to comfort her, not sparing me a single kind word.
"It was just a kidney removal, and yet she died from that? How useless. Of all the times, she had to die now and make you upset," Mom complained. "Stop crying, sweetheart, or you'll end up sick."
Ever since I was a kid, if Yvonne even felt the slightest discomfort, it was somehow always my fault.
When Yvonne took my pen and ended up pricking her hand, that was on me—I should've kept my pen hidden better.
Mom then dumped all my pens at the school gate and crushed them under her feet. She grabbed Yvonne and took off, leaving me standing all alone in the rain, forced to walk home by myself.
When Yvonne stole my birthday cake and ended up choking because she stuffed herself too quickly, it was still my fault—I never should've had a birthday in the first place.
Mom handed the whole cake to Yvonne and left me locked outside all night. After that, I never had a birthday again.
When Yvonne snatched my boyfriend, that was on me too—I was wrong for ever daring to compete with her.
Mom made me break up with my boyfriend, and when I wouldn't listen, she broke my leg so I couldn't step outside.
Even when Yvonne got assaulted, it was my fault—I should've protected her from everything.
Mom practically spat the words at me, "Why couldn't it have been you who got raped instead?"
In my previous life, I'd fought tooth and nail to escape them. But in the end, I was killed by their toxic madness.
This time around, I was determined to break free from them—and make them pay for everything they'd done.
I glanced at the date—it was the day Yvonne's three-month pregnancy was exposed. Under Mom's relentless grilling, she finally broke down and confessed everything.
A while back, she'd gone out clubbing with some classmates, got way too wasted, and someone forced himself on her.
Mom called me, demanding that I come home and clean up Yvonne's mess.
"Yvonne's falling apart, and all you do is act carefree?" Mom shouted. "Get your ass back home and figure out a solution for Yvonne."
Last time, I dropped everything and rushed back home. But the moment I stepped through the door, Mom slapped me hard across the face.
"You did this on purpose, didn't you?" she snapped. "You knew Yvonne was hurting, yet you had to drag a man home. Are you trying to hurt her even more?
"Seriously, do you have any shame at all? Why couldn't it have been you who got assaulted instead?"
No one had listened to my explanation.
This time around, I wouldn't even bother.
I cut Mom off directly. "I've got a surgery scheduled today. There's no way I'm coming home.
"If you need someone to call the police, I can do it now. If Yvonne wants an abortion, I'll perform the procedure for her. But don't expect anything else from me."
Mom went ballistic, but before she could let loose, I hung up.
I'd already heard enough of her toxic rants in my previous life. This time, I wasn't gonna hear even one more word.
