Chapter 3
I glanced at the photo, barely paying attention, and said, "This photo is totally edited.
"I have no clue who this boy is, and I'm definitely not his mom."
Helen and Daniel were both taken aback, and Helen immediately laughed out loud. "Jayda, I never expected you to be raised into someone like this!
"You're selfish, ruthless, and lying is second nature to you. If you'd just admitted it openly, I might've thought better of you. But acting like this only makes you even more repulsive!"
I was ready to flat-out deny it, but with everyone talking nonstop, they nailed me to the wall before I could even say anything.
I was looking forward to seeing what other tricks Alex would pull next.
Kyla shook her head in disapproval. "Jayda, there's even a group photo. Are you really still going to deny it?
"Jayda, we'll help you raise him. Please don't pretend he's not yours, okay? That would be way too heartless...
"Don't worry. Even if people talk behind your back, it's really not a big deal. You shouldn't let it bother you at all!"
Kyla couldn't care less about what others said. After all, the only one getting dragged through the mud would be the real heiress of the Fisher family for being 'shameless.'
I raised an eyebrow and shot her a look. "If you want to know if this photo's fake, grab anyone who knows how to edit pictures and let them check it out.
"With editing this basic, even a rookie could spot it right away.
"Relax, it'll be quick and won't waste any time."
Kyla's face instantly turned pale, and she deliberately muttered under her breath, "What if you just bring someone who's in cahoots with you?"
I scoffed, about to say something, when Daniel took the photo and looked it over carefully.
"Yeah, it's definitely photoshopped," he said. "So this boy isn't actually Jayda's?"
Kyla's face went even paler.
Just then, the butler burst in, clearly panicked. "Mrs. Fisher, a guy outside says he's Jayda's husband!"
Kyla's face, which had been pale just moments ago, visibly brightened as a hint of color returned to her cheeks. She let a subtle smile tug at her lips.
As soon as the butler finished speaking, a man barged into the villa.
His eyes lit up when he saw me, and he lunged forward, trying to yank my hand. "Honey, I knew you'd be here. Come on, let's go home!"
He bared a mouthful of yellow teeth, his voice booming and downright mean.
The disgust on Helen's face was practically written in bold. She couldn't even pretend to hide it.
The man ignored everyone else and just kept shouting. "It's me, Harrison Keller! Honey, why are you spacing out?
"Don't tell me you've already forgotten all the wild fun we had that night!
"You seduced me. After that crazy night together, I wanted to marry you, but you thought I was too broke and just ditched me.
"I've been searching for you all these years. Jayda, I've been through hell trying to find you!"
Alex suddenly spoke up from the side, his voice shaky. "You... Are you really my dad? So I have a dad after all."
His voice trembled, and big tears streamed down his face, making him look absolutely miserable.
Harrison stepped forward and wrapped the boy in a tight hug. "That's right. I'm your dad.
"I've always known about you, son. I've been searching for you all these years!"
The "father and son" hugged each other right away, like they were having a tearful reunion after ages apart.
I clapped, a mocking smile on my face. "Touching story, really, but I have no idea who you are.
"If you keep dragging me into your nonsense, I'll call the police."
Harrison's face went pale in a flash, and he shot a nervous look at Kyla.
That sealed the deal for me. It all made sense now, and I was even more convinced my hunch was right.
Kyla avoided Harrison's gaze and absentmindedly touched her shoulder, as if trying to hide her nerves.
Harrison suddenly snapped his fingers like he just remembered something, yelling out, "I've got proof! That night when we had sex, I saw it. There's a red birthmark on your left shoulder!"
Hearing that, Kyla darted over and pulled my collar aside, exposing my shoulder.
A vivid red birthmark was revealed for everyone to see.
Kyla gasped, covering her mouth in shock. "Why does it look like this?
"I just didn't buy what this guy was saying, so I went over to check, so you could prove you were innocent, but...
"Jayda, please don't be mad at me. Seriously, I wasn't trying to do anything bad..."
I shot her a look, raising an eyebrow. "Wow, you really went all out with the investigation, didn't you?"
When she heard me, her eyes darted for a split second before she dropped her head, acting all remorseful.
