Chapter 2
When Andrew brought Lily out, his rescue suit was torn up.
It was obvious that Lily's situation had been way more dangerous.
I spotted them from afar and sneered.
Back in my previous life, Andrew didn't care about the orders from the higher-ups and was the first one to rush to the scene.
I thought he did it for Felix and me.
He was only here because his true love, Lily, was still trapped beneath the ruins.
Felix, who was only as tall as Lily's waist, was doing his best to grab onto her sleeve, trying to help her stay upright.
Andrew let Lily rest in his arms.
He said softly and gently, "Don't worry, the rescue team is almost here. Once they get here, I'll make sure you're taken straight to the best hospital around."
My eyes stung with emotion.
Back in my previous life, when I was trapped under the rubble, waiting to die, was he also this gentle with Lily?
"Ma'am, could you repeat that? Who was the uniformed rescue worker just now?" the man beside me asked.
My eyes swollen from crying, I stood in front of the camera and turned to face the three approaching.
"That man is my husband. And the one he rushed to save is his first love," I said.
"Charlotte?" Andrew blurted out.
Hearing my voice, Andrew suddenly looked up.
He immediately turned to look at the spot where Felix and I had been trapped, and then quickly looked back at me.
"H-how did you—" Andrew stammered.
"Bet you didn't expect to see me here, huh?" I gasped out.
I was crying so hard that I could barely breathe.
I continued, "Did you all see that beam over there? My husband kicked it down.
"He carried our son out and smashed the support. He didn't care if I lived or died."
I was crying so hard that I could barely stand, and a reporter had to hold me up.
"Ma'am, please try to calm down. Take your time," the reporter said gently.
I choked out, "I thought he didn't have time to save me. If I hadn't found another way out, he would've killed me down there under the rubble.
"I thought he rushed over first for Felix and me, but it turns out that it was all for his precious first love.
"Andrew, if you wanted to be with Lily, you could've told me. Why did you have to get rid of me?"
As soon as I finished my outburst, the reporters went into a frenzy. Camera flashes went off right in our faces, and everyone's attention was locked on us.
Andrew's first instinct was to shield Lily's eyes from the blinding flashes.
Then he shot me a sharp look, his brows furrowed.
"Charlotte, are you out of your mind? Do you realize how you're making Lily look in front of everyone?" Andrew snapped.
I immediately pointed at him.
"Look at him. The first thing he does is protect her," I cried out.
The onlookers exploded with chatter.
"Judging by your outfit, you must be with the rescue team. Ignoring orders is one thing, but you show up and save your old flame instead of your own wife?" someone jeered.
"Lily Linley? That name rings a bell. Isn't she some minor influencer?" another person chimed in.
"Found her! She is a small-time influencer, and there's some juicy drama as well. She snuck into a hotel late at night with a male fan, and the real wife busted in during her livestream," someone else gossiped.
A half-smashed sandwich hurtled toward Lily, hitting her square in the face and smearing her carefully done makeup.
"You bitch! How many married men have you hooked up with?" someone screamed.
"And you, treating that used-up woman like a prize and abandoning your own wife to save her. Pathetic!" someone else shouted.
"Zoom in on her face. Isn't she supposed to be an influencer? Wants to be famous, huh? Let's make her go viral for real," someone else yelled.
Lily shrieked and threw herself into Andrew's arms.
"I swear I didn't. That's not true," she cried.
All the cameras swung around, zeroing in on them.
Under the circumstances, Andrew should have backed off.
After all, he was still in his rescue uniform.
But he paused for a moment and then pulled Lily behind him, putting himself front and center for all the cameras to catch. He gave me a sharp look, his brows knitted together.
"Charlotte, clear this up. Are you trying to drag an innocent person down?" Andrew barked.
I wiped my tears, sobbing in front of the cameras.
"Innocent? You think the one you abandoned me to save is innocent?" I choked out.
"That's right. You ditched your own wife, and you still think you've got an excuse?" someone shouted.
"Let's get them. Teach that cheating jerk and his slut a lesson," another person yelled.
"Don't hurt my Dad," Felix shouted.
He dashed in front of Andrew, his tiny frame bursting with unexpected energy.
Felix continued, "My Dad and Lily are innocent. Don't let my Mom fool you. She's a liar.
"She's not as pitiful as she looks.
"Just now, she left me all alone under the rubble and ran off by herself.
"I was bawling my eyes out, and she didn't glance at me. If Dad hadn't come to get me, I'd be dead for sure."
Everyone froze, caught off guard.
