Chapter 4

The black crow burst into a mist of blood.

Alpha withdrew his silver blade. "A vampire scrying spell."

I stood where I was.

Victor already knew.

"He'll come soon," Alpha said.

"With an army?" I asked.

"Not necessarily."

"Why not?"

"He'll test your value first."

The next evening, a vampire carriage stopped at the edge of the Black Forest.

It wasn't Victor who came.

It was Maya.

She wore a black gown, six blood guards trailing behind her.

Keira brought the news, eyes sharp with scorn. "Maya is here."

Alpha asked, "Do you want to see her?"

I said, "Yes."
