Chapter 2
If this had happened before, Edward would have never brushed off wearing a dress as no big deal.
I just knew Jessie was the one Dolly meant when she talked about the white dress.
Edward, who always acted like the perfect husband, ended up cheating on me after all.
He had a whole other family out there.
My hands trembling, I called my older sister and asked her to check all the assets Edward and I owned together.
After dropping me off, Edward hurried off, claiming he had urgent business at work.
I didn't go home. Once I confirmed Edward had a hidden property under his name, I hailed a cab and went straight there.
The front door code was the same as the one at our house.
I let out a bitter laugh. So this really was his second home. He couldn't even be bothered to change the code.
I pushed the door open, and the place was full of life.
Photos of Edward and Jessie were everywhere.
The balcony still had the birdcage where Dolly used to be kept, feathers and bird poop scattered all over. I understood why Dori refused to speak in front of Edward.
There were suits and dresses still hanging in the master bedroom closet.
Only dresses, dresses in every color imaginable.
I felt completely drained. After that gut-wrenching pain, all I could feel was this overwhelming hate and desperation from being betrayed.
Who could've guessed ten years of love could be shredded to pieces so easily, just like that.
The front door opened. I quickly wiped my tears and slipped into the study.
Edward and Jessie couldn't keep their hands off each other. They were so desperate, they didn't even bother going to the bedroom. They made out passionately on the living room couch.
My last shred of hope was crushed. I covered my mouth, so sick to my stomach I nearly gagged.
"Naughty boy, why are you so rough today? What, your other wifey couldn't satisfy you last night?" Jessie teased.
"I love my baby the most, especially when you're rocking those stockings. She's got nothing on you. I only want you," Edward replied.
"Hmph! But you totally ignored me yesterday. I'm gonna punish you!" Jessie pouted.
"Alright, alright. Didn't you already get your revenge on me physically? How about I take you to buy that necklace you've been eyeing?" Edward coaxed.
"You're the best, hubby!" Jessie giggled.
Jessie was so eager to get that necklace, she tugged Edward along as they hurried out.
I stepped out of the study, fighting the urge to puke, and took pictures of all their couple photos. Then I sent them over to my sister for safekeeping.
My elder sister, Brenda, called me back almost immediately.
"Edward cheated on you? He was literally on his knees begging me to let you marry you back then. Looks like life's been too easy for him. He's grown so bold!" Brenda snapped.
She was furious. "Sandra, you've never done anything wrong. Why are you beating yourself up? You're a Fischer, remember? Should I take care of those two dogs for you, or do you want to handle it yourself?"
I gritted my teeth. "I'll make sure he gets thrown out of the Fischer family with not a dime to his name!"
To go along with Jessie's punishment, Edward spent the whole night out for the first time ever.
I didn't sleep a wink, and by morning, I was all cried out.
With my mind set, I marched straight into the CEO's office, bringing Brenda's trusted assistant, Mike Weaver, along for backup.
My phone buzzed.
Edward finally decided to reach out, feeding me some excuse about working late all night.
The office door swung open, and Edward strolled in with Jessie, their hands linked and both of them looking all smiles.
But the moment they spotted me, both froze, completely stunned.
Especially Edward. He jerked his hand away from Jessie so fast, beads of cold sweat instantly broke out on his forehead.
"Hey, what brings you here?" Edward blurted out.
He forced a smile. "I was just coming upstairs with Ms. Graham. I needed her to take some documents downstairs for me."
Clutching the files to her chest, Jessie gave Edward a sad, reproachful look, like she'd just been wronged.
I pretended nothing had happened and said calmly, "Weren't you always pushing me to come back to the company? I'm just doing what you wanted, so here I am."
Edward let out a sigh of relief. "Wait, why is Mr. Weaver here too? Your sister's here as well?"
I shook my head. "Aren't you signing with the Graham Group today? Mr. Weaver is just here to oversee things for Brenda."
Edward wasn't thrilled, but with my status, he couldn't really say no, so he just went along with it.
I rarely came by the office, so aside from the board members, nobody knew who I was. The rest of the staff treated me like I didn't even exist.
Jessie gave me a seat way off in the corner, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. "Mrs. Fischer, you showed up out of nowhere. All the seats are already assigned, so you'll just have to settle for this spot."
She gave me a defiant look, turned away with a smug smile, and strutted over to sit right next to Edward, acting all high and mighty.
She was practically acting like she was the real Mrs. Fischer, like she owned the place.
