After Michael woke up, he refused to eat or drink anything.

He just sat there, gazing out the window in a daze.

I lingered outside his hospital room for a long time, not sure how to face him.

After all, he lost his leg to save me.

Finally, I mustered up the courage and walked in with my head down, making sure no one else was around.
