Chapter 3
"Mira, did you know?" I said.
"The head of Noah Pharma's miracle drug project had their license revoked abroad three years ago for academic fraud."
Mira's face went pale in a flash.
She clutched the blanket so hard her knuckles turned white.
"I... I don't know what you're talking about," she stammered.
Only I could truly understand her panic.
In my previous life, it took me a long time to uncover the truth.
Jason had been deceived.
But Mira knew the truth.
I stared at her, making sure she heard every word.
"You'd better hope Jason can keep affording your meds."
Mira's body started to tremble.
Suddenly, she began coughing hard, covering her mouth as blood oozed through her fingers.
Jason freaked out and rushed over to hold her.
"Mira! Mira, what's wrong?" Jason shouted, panic in his voice.
Mira weakly pointed at me, her eyes burning with hatred and fear.
"It's her. She made me so upset. Jason, my head hurts so bad," Mira whimpered, clinging to him.
With that, her head slumped to the side, and she fainted.
Jason spun around, his eyes bloodshot as he glared at me.
"Tina! If anything happens to Mira, I won't let you off!"
I crossed my arms and shot him a cold glare.
"Fine, I'll be waiting."
Just then, Mira's phone on the nightstand lit up.
It was a text message.
The sender was Dr. Lee.
The message was just one line.
[Stopped your meds. Chill out—don't mess around and end up hurting yourself for real.]
I took a picture of the message.
Then I turned and walked out of the room.
Behind me, Jason was screaming for the doctors.
His voice was full of panic.
How ridiculous.
In my previous life, Jason and Mira pushed me to the edge, left me bankrupt. I was standing on the rooftop, phone in hand, calling him one last time.
He just said impatiently, "Tina, can you stop with the drama? Mira's celebration party is tonight, and I'm really busy."
When I got home, Oliver was already there.
He looked at me.
"All taken care of?" he asked.
"Pretty much," I replied.
I showed him the photo on my phone.
"We should look into this Dr. Lee," I said.
Oliver glanced at the photo and immediately got the picture.
He forwarded the photo to his assistant.
"Dig up every call and transaction tied to this number," he ordered.
"And short Noah Pharma's stock."
Once everything was sorted, Oliver turned to me.
"There's a party tonight. You're coming with me."
"Jason will be there too," he added.
"Okay," I replied.
At the party, when I showed up arm in arm with Oliver, everyone was stunned.
Jason was there too.
Mira wasn't with him.
He looked exhausted, with dark shadows under his eyes.
When he saw us, he came right over, drink in hand.
"Tina, we need to talk," Jason said, his voice low and tense.
Oliver stepped in front of me, shielding me from Jason.
"Jason, she's my wife now," Oliver said, his tone cold and possessive.
"If you've got something to say, take it up with me."
Jason didn't even glance at Oliver. His eyes were fixed on me, burning with intensity.
"Mira's in critical condition. The doctors say she needs a bone marrow transplant right away."
"None of her family members are a match," he added.
"You're the only one whose bone marrow is a preliminary match for her."
I almost burst out laughing.
Here we go again.
In my previous life, Jason played the guilt card and had me lying on the operating table, ready to donate my bone marrow for Mira.
So what did I get for it?
The night before the surgery, Mira suddenly "miraculously" found a perfect donor out of nowhere.
At the same time, Jason swiped a key contract from my company and handed it straight to my rival.
I ended up taking a huge loss.
And now he was trying to pull the same trick again.
I stepped out from behind Oliver.
"So?" I said, my voice cool and indifferent.
Jason looked genuinely surprised by my reaction.
He froze for a second.
"I want you to go to the hospital and get tested."
"If you're willing to save Mira, whatever you want—I'll agree to it." He promised.
"Really?" I asked, my tone full of sarcasm.
Jason nodded emphatically.
"Really."
I looked at him and let out a mocking laugh.
"Sure."
"Here's my condition: you kneel and beg me."
Jason's expression soured instantly.
"Tina, don't push it!" he growled.
"Suit yourself."
I turned to leave.
Jason called out, "Wait!"
He stared at me, his eyes burning with struggle, humiliation, and fury.
Jason took a deep breath, trying to pull himself together.
With everyone staring, he knelt down right in front of me, humiliation written all over his face.
"Tina, I'm begging you," Jason choked out.
"Save Mira, please."
