Chapter 5

Half the lights in the clinic suddenly went out.

A red alarm suddenly lit up at the end of the hallway.

I picked Danny up, but as soon as I touched him, he winced in pain.

The doctor stopped me, pressing my hand down.

"Don't move. The antidote hasn't finished going in yet," he said.

Darian stood by the door.

"Take them to the basement," he said.

"It's too late," the doctor said. "The Council of Elders has sealed the exits."

Suddenly, there was a burst of applause from outside the door.

Isabelle's voice echoed in. "Darian, you disappoint me."
