I set my suitcase by the door and called the property manager while Brooke was still standing in front of me.

A woman answered on the fourth ring. I gave her the reservation number and put the call on speaker.

“All six guests are registered,” I said. “If I leave tonight, can the other five remain until Saturday?”

“Yes. The reservation will stay active through your original checkout time.”

“And can they add anything to my card?”

“Only charges covered by the existing rental agreement. Any extension or additional service would require your authorization.”
