Chapter 5

Michael stared at the recording pen in my hand, his expression shifting through a storm of emotions.

There was shock, anger, and most of all, the panic of someone who realized he'd just been outsmarted.

He wasn't stupid.

He caught on immediately to why I'd bought it.

"Claire, what are you trying to pull?" There was a wary edge to his tone. "What else are you planning?"

"Nothing," I said, idly fiddling with the small recording pen, my tone light and easy.

"I just think our conversation ahead might really matter, so I'll jot things down, in case someone pretends…
