Chapter 4

One bodyguard raised his leg, ready to kick Leo.

I spoke up. "It's brainstem tumor surgery. I'm the only surgeon in the state qualified to do it."

The bodyguard froze.

Richard narrowed his eyes. "What are you trying to say?"

I tugged my mask up slightly. "The scalpel is in my hand. Even the tiniest shake, just a fraction of an inch, and Isabelle will be bedridden for life. She'll need help with all her daily needs."

The hall fell silent.

Richard's face darkened. He slowly walked up to me. "Are you threatening me?"

I said, "Yeah. Didn't you get…
