Chapter 1
That night when I returned to the dorm, I finished washing up and was about to do my skincare.
But I noticed my face cream was clearly used up more than before.
I was just about to walk over to my roommate Rene’s bed and ask her about it.
But a stream of floating comments suddenly appeared in front of my eyes.
[Using a bit of face cream and she can’t handle it? Our girl is going to steal your sugar daddy!]
[The female side character is so boring and cold, like a dead person. That innocent nice-girl type is outdated.]
[Once the sugar daddy sees how lively and bright the female lead was, and how she keeps climbing up using every chance she gets, he’ll definitely be obsessed.]
I frowned.
'Sugar daddy?
The one who just sent me back to the dorm…was my brother.
Putting my confusion aside, I walked over to Rene's bed.
Her curtain, usually always closed, was now open just a crack.
I saw her watching a makeup tutorial on her phone, trying to copy the look.
The cushion compact in her hand looked familiar, almost exactly like the one I bought.
Back when grad school first started, she saw my makeup all laid out and made snide remarks.
"Seriously, are some people here to study or just to date?"
Every time I did my makeup, she'd roll her eyes at me, yet here she was, secretly trying to learn how to do makeup herself.
I couldn't care less about her two-faced act. I stood a few steps away and asked coldly, "Rene, did you use my face cream?"
Rene was startled, quickly shoving the cushion compact under her blanket.
"No way! Why are you spying on me? Do you ever know privacy?"
I raised the face cream in my hand.
"But it's just us two in this dorm, and I know exactly how much was left."
Rene got up and yanked her curtain shut, her voice dripping with contempt.
"What's that supposed to mean? You think I stole your stuff? Any proof?"
"Your sugar daddy's loaded, isn't he? Why are you so hung up on a bit of face cream?"
I frowned, ready to confront her directly and get some answers.
Suddenly, a barrage of comments flashed across my vision again.
[Our precious girl Rene is so pitiful. Her family won't give her any allowance, so she has to use other people's makeup and face cream.]
[Because a bottle of luxury face cream sparked our girl’s ambition, that’s all the supporting female character is good for.]
[Rene used to scoff at makeup, but now that she's glamming up, she's totally going to make the sugar daddy fall for her hard.]
I stared at the comments for a while.
Finally, I figured out what was going on.
The comments saw Rene as the lead in some villainess webnovel.
She'd been working hard since she was a kid, but after witnessing my lavish lifestyle, she turned into a full-blown villainess.
She stole my sugar daddy, and from then on, started mingling with different men, climbing her way up the social ladder.
And I was just the unlucky supporting roommate.
My brother, who's ten years older than me, was mistaken by Rene for my sugar daddy.
Now she was sharpening her claws, dead set on stealing my "sugar daddy."
In the story, after getting dumped by my "sugar daddy", I'd pathetically show up at his door, begging for another chance.
Not only would I be forced to watch my "sugar daddy" and Rene getting intimate right in front of me, but I'd get totally humiliated right there.
After failing to get revenge, I'd get kicked out of school and be forced into a life of hardship, even working in the sex industry.
I was speechless. I turned around and opened my desk drawer.
Sure enough, my designer cushion compact was gone.
It looked like thieves got fancy new names these days.
Now they were called villainesses.
Back then, I actually wanted to get along with my only roommate.
When I first started grad school, my brother paid upfront for three years of rent and utilities for this dorm.
When Rene moved in, I went downstairs to help her with her luggage and told her about it while I was helping with her bags.
But Rene looked uncomfortable and insisted on paying me.
"I'm not staying here for free. I'll pay you."
I waved her off.
"Don't overthink it. My family paid for the place, so just relax and make yourself at home."
I had no idea she'd hold onto this and never let it go.
She thought she was being sneaky, but I always caught her stealing glances at me.
She'd watch me do my makeup, my skincare routine, even when I was getting dressed.
Eventually, I couldn't take it anymore and just pulled out a brand new bottle of skincare to offer her.
"Do you want it? I can't use it all anyway."
She looked like she wanted it so badly, but still wouldn't reach out to take it.
"How much is this?"
Afraid she wouldn't get the wrong idea, I purposely told her only half the real price.
"It's not even 300 dollars. Seriously, just take it."
She shot back with a mocking tone.
"You’re really lucky. I don’t even get that much for my monthly allowance."
Since I knew she couldn't stand me, I wasn't about to keep trying to warm up to someone who clearly didn't care. I stopped talking to her altogether.
Sometimes I'd ask classmates who lived nearby to help me pick up my packages, and I'd always treat them to a meal or give them a small gift afterward.
