Jonathan searched tirelessly aboard rescue boats, refusing to rest.

Easton, despite just recovering from a fever, insisted on staying with his father.

Anna's care was no match for mine. Easton developed a fever again that very night.

But he stubbornly endured without saying a word.

It wasn't until the wreckage of the car I was in was retrieved downstream, and the rescue team Jonathan hired declared survival impossible, that Easton finally collapsed, blacking out.

When Easton woke again, he was in the hospital.

Jonathan had also fallen ill, in the next bed over.
