Chapter 3

As Victoria was lost in thought, her private phone rang. It was an old phone she'd kept for years, and only a select few knew the number. She picked it up, and when she saw the caller ID, her gaze sharpened.

It was Charles.

She hesitated for a moment, then pressed the answer button. "Hello."

"Victoria, it's me, Charles," came Charles's gentle voice on the line. "I heard about what went down at the investment conference today."

Victoria didn't say anything, waiting for him to continue.

"Victoria, what's the point of all this? You're all family. Can't you sit down…
