Chapter 5

Derek greeted Mia, then sat down beside me and took my hand.

"What's wrong? You don't look so good," he said, immediately picking up on my mood. "Is it the wedding dress?"

Mia quickly made an excuse and slipped away, shooting me a look that said, "It's better to be open with him."

Soft jazz drifted through the Misty Lounge as the bartender polished glasses behind the counter.

I leaned against Derek's shoulder, searching for the right words. I told him about running into Lucas and the ring. I stuck only to the facts, and didn't mention how I felt.
