Chapter 5

Everyone started using their forks and knives, but I kept my head down, fidgeting with my hands, not saying a word.

Zachary, sitting across from me, was the first to notice something was off. "What's wrong? Don't know how to use a fork and knife?"

I looked up at him timidly and nodded without protest.

Zachary gave me a reassuring look. "Mine's already cut up. Go ahead and eat from my plate."

Mom and Dad smiled in relief.

Wendy, annoyed, sliced her steak so hard that the knife scraped noisily against the plate.

After dinner, Wendy threw a fit again…
