Chapter 1
The fake daughter was thriving in high society using my identity.
My elder brother was fascinated by her as a legend in games.
My elder sister envied her as a master of online novels.
My father admired her as a financial tycoon.
My mother worshipped her as a medical expert.
At first, I couldn't care less, but the fake daughter kept causing troubles!
"Fine, so that's how it's going to be. I'm going to show my real identities now!"
On the first day back at the Miller family, I was warned not to compete with the fake daughter Sylvia Miller.
They said Sylvia would always be their precious little princess.
I kept it in mind, hoping to get along with Sylvia and never be the one to stir up trouble first.
But Sylvia acted like I was her sworn enemy and picked on me whenever she could.
She framed me for pushing her down the stairs.
She slandered me for fooling around with those jobless gangsters.
She also threw shade at me, isolated me, and bullied me.
I recounted Sylvia's wrong-doings to my family, but instead of helping me, they all told me off, taking Sylvia's side.
My mother waved her hand dismissively. "Impossible! Sylvia is not that kind of person."
My father shot me a glance. "You should reflect on what you did and said at school, which is disgusting."
My elder brother Lawrence chimed in, "We've watched Sylvia grow up. She's pretty and has a heart of gold. You just came from the countryside, and you don't understand many rules here. Stop making a scene."
My elder sister Meredith sneered, "I advise you to focus more on your studies. Once you're something yourself, no one dares to bully you."
I thought they were defending Sylvia just because of the family bond they had built over the past eighteen years.
But I accidentally discovered something.
Lawrence held the game console and asked Sylvia for guidance.
Meredith hugged the online novel and wanted Sylvia to sign for her.
My father carried a stack of venture capital projects in his arms and asked Sylvia for advice.
My mother turned to Sylvia for help when she got stuck in the classic cases of the hospital.
I was filled with confusion.
One day, I happened to see Sylvia and Lawrence playing online games.
It was a team battle, and they suffered a crushing defeat.
Lawrence said regretfully, "Sylvia, when will you show your real strength and play with me?"
Sylvia replied gently, "Lawrence, you're amazing, you know, making me look like a rookie."
Lawrence said with fixed eyes, "No, Sylvia, you're always the best game player in my heart."
Sylvia smiled slightly. "I'm so happy playing games with you, Lawrence, and I look forward to playing together next time."
After Sylvia left, I leaned over to Lawrence and asked with confusion, "Sylvia loses every time she plays games with you, lowering your record and level. Why do you always like to play with her?"
Lawrence snorted, "You know nothing! Sylvia was trying to make me happy and let me protect her. She deliberately didn't show her true strength. Truth is, Sylvia is the badass. Have you heard about Best Ever in online games?"
I paused and said, "Are you talking about the Best Ever who has set an undefeated record in any games she joins?"
A little complacency appeared on Lawrence's face.
"Yes, the legend of online games, the undefeated god of war, the goddess in the eyes of thousands of netizens. Since ten years ago, there has been this undefeated myth, Best Ever! That is Sylvia, who you blindly see as a scheming girl!"
Lawrence eyed me with disdain and continued, "You are my own sister, so I told you this secret. I also want to tell you to stop competing for favor. With the fact that Sylvia is Best Ever, I will never be on your side whenever you are at odds with Sylvia.
"In addition, with Best Ever's identity, the major game clubs are rushing to have Sylvia join their team. Sylvia could have whatever she wanted. But she chose to stay in our family just because she couldn't let go of the family bond with us.
"She cares about the family so much. So do I, and I won't let her down.
"Stop playing those little mind games and focus more on your studies. Being admitted to a good university is better for you than anything else!"
I touched my chin and pursed my lips.
After thinking about it, I felt something was off.
I asked, testing the water, "But I think the game ID Sylvia used to play with you just now was not Best Ever? How can you be sure she is Best Ever?"
Lawrence clicked his tongue. "Tsk, she's just keeping a low profile, okay? She doesn't want to reveal her real identity, so she played with me with an alt account. You are terribly clueless!"
Lawrence said confidently, "I have seen the invitations sent to her by the major teams! Of course, I'm sure that Sylvia is Best Ever!"
After a long time, under Lawrence's gaze, as if he was looking at an idiot, I took out my phone.
Then I said seriously, "Lawrence, I can also play the game you played with Sylvia just now. Why don't we try it?"
Lawrence gave me a glance, dismissively saying, "You want to play with me? I am a challenger player. Can we match into a room?"
I smiled slightly and said, "Barely."
His account level, barely enough, could be on par with me.
Lawrence raised his eyebrows and reported his account number. "You invited me to the game room. Do you want to play a team battle or a single-player battle?"
I replied, "Either will do. Which one do you prefer?"
"Let's play team battles. I'll absolutely lead you to victory, lest you always say I don't care about you or love you. I tell you, if I show this account name of mine, other players will have to bow their heads to me, and you can act all high and mighty in the future..."
Before Lawrence could finish speaking, his eyes were instantly pinned to his phone screen.
Even his body froze.
"Best, best... Best Ever..." Even his voice trembled.
When he looked at me, his eyes were full of disbelief.
"Gabrielle, you, you, you, you are actually Best Ever... No, this is absolutely impossible. How can you be Best Ever? If you are Best Ever, then what about Sylvia?"
I was also curious what exactly Sylvia was.
I smiled at him and said casually, "Lawrence, the game begins."
The game had just started.
The entire screen lit up with the gorgeous debut animation tailor-made by the game designer for me.
About thirty seconds later, our teammates and enemy players other than Lawrence sent live comments on the public screen.
[Oh my god, I actually matched Best Ever! So thrilled!]
[Best Ever, I love you, just like a mouse loves cheese! Love you!]
[Playing games with Best Ever is worth it. Come on, kill me! Dying in your hands is my happiest moment!]
[Lord, I'm so blessed. I can actually play games with Best Ever. Oh god, I'm over the moon. Is this a dream?]
Lawrence fixed his eyes on the phone screen, shocked.
He snapped back to senses for a long time.
After I had won thirty heads and twenty assists, the game had quietly come to an end.
Leaving my teammates to clean up the battlefield, I quit the game.
Lawrence looked into my eyes, his gaze burning with shock.
He asked, still unconvinced. "Gabrielle, are you really Best Ever?"
I smiled faintly, imitating Sylvia's sweet and pretentious manner.
"I'm so happy playing games with you, Lawrence, and I look forward to playing together next time."
With that, I left Lawrence's room.
As soon as the door closed behind me, there came a loud scream from inside.
"Fuck!" Lawrence shouted like crazy.
