Chapter 3

Even though I could barely make sense of it, I still burst out laughing.

Dominic gave me a weird look, his wariness deepening even more.

When the hot water hit his skin, Dominic instinctively flinched.

I gently comforted him, softly singing the song my mother used to sing to me when I was little.

I used all the medicine I had on him, but nothing seemed to help.

His wounds gave him a raging fever, and he kept rambling in his sleep.

He was just a kid, huddled in a ragged blanket, crying out for his mother again and again.
