Chapter 3
Within just a few hours, the post blew up with over a hundred thousand comments.
And just like that, I gained more than fifty thousand new followers.
The day I got my marriage certificate with Richard, I kept wondering what would be the most efficient way to amass some serious wealth.
If I just depended on the 100,000 dollars a month Richard gave me as pocket money, it wouldn't even come close.
That was nowhere near enough.
Now that I was Mrs. Lane, becoming an influencer was honestly the easiest and fastest way to cash in.
Whether Richard ended up embarrassed in his circle or not, I couldn't care less.
That was never even a concern for me.
From that day forward, I started showing off my new rich-wife life online.
Afternoon tea, picking up Leo from school, hitting the gym, and showing up at glitzy events; I posted it all.
My followers shot up from just a few tens of thousands to nearly ten million.
Now, I was closing in on ten million followers.
Brand deals were pouring in so fast I couldn't even keep track.
And the comments section was flooded with people cheering me on.
[People can say whatever they want, but honestly, who wouldn't drop everything for a life like Sophia's?]
[Richard gives her 30,000 dollars a month. Honestly, I'd be happy with just 15,000.]
[Hey, don't mess with the market rate.]
[Stop hating on Sophia. If this kind of luck landed on you, would you really turn it down?]
As my fame grew, brands started lining up for me to endorse their products.
I said yes to every offer and raked in a fortune from all those endorsement deals.
Drama hit just then.
That day, I got a private message on my social media account.
[You're not good enough for him. Stop using the kid as your ticket to fame.]
Honestly, ever since I started my social media account, I'd been getting messages like that every single day.
But for some reason, this one hit differently.
This one wasn't like the rest.
That night, when Richard got home, he didn't even touch the dinner I'd spent all afternoon making.
He said flatly, "Leo, go to your room."
Leo hesitated, looking torn.
He looked up at me with those big, round eyes.
I gave him a reassuring smile, and only then did he leave, glancing back at me every few steps.
Across the dining table, Richard's expression went stone cold.
Richard's face completely frosted over.
"Sophia, you've got some nerve. Who gave you the right to put Leo in the public eye?" he snapped.
His tone was harsh and unforgiving.
His eyes were practically burning with fury.
I froze for a moment, then looked up at him.
"Are you talking about me making videos and being an influencer?" I asked.
"What else would I be talking about?" he shot back.
I gave a wry smile.
Out of nowhere, my chest felt tight.
After pulling up my social media account, I slid my phone across the table to Richard.
"Go ahead, Mr. Lane. Take a look; see if you can find even a glimpse of your son in any of my videos," I said coolly.
Richard's brow furrowed slightly.
His long, well-defined fingers swiped across the screen.
Of course, he didn't find anything.
Because in every single one of my posts, it was always just me on camera.
A few minutes later, Richard furrowed his brow and tossed my phone back to me.
"No matter what, you're not posting on that account anymore," he said coldly.
"Don't forget, I gave you this life, and I can end it whenever I want," he added, his tone icy.
My grip on the fork tightened.
'I really didn't want to give in, but what choice did I have?' After a moment, I forced myself to nod, keeping my voice steady, "Okay."
Richard got up and headed to his study.
I stayed behind, cleaning up after dinner and doing my best to play the dutiful wife and mom.
Funny thing was, just as I was about to head to my room, I happened to catch Richard on the phone.
Richard was speaking quietly. "Leo's situation is taken care of. I promise, this won't happen again."
He was talking to a woman on the other end.
She let out a mocking laugh, her voice full of scorn. "Richard, can anyone actually trust a single word you say anymore?
"You swore to me you'd never get Leo a stepmom, and now look at you, dragging in someone so beneath me just to disgust me."
