Chapter 4

My dad pushed open the door to the private room at Castaville Restaurant.

The air was thick with the smell of cigarettes, alcohol, and the steam from the food.

The round table was packed with relatives.

My dad pulled out the leather chair at the head of the table.

He gave Lilith a gentle push on the shoulder so she'd sit down.

Phillip took the seat to her right.

He set the table for her and served her coffee.

The only seat left for me was the one next to the serving entrance, where waiters were constantly coming and going.
