Chapter 3

Mom's voice drifted up from downstairs.

Maxwell called out, "Hello, ma'am. I'm here to see Aurelyn."

It was Maxwell.

Why was he showing up at my door?

Oh god, was Maxwell here to tear me limb from limb?

He was definitely here to call me out.

Downstairs, Mom said, "Aurey's upstairs. She came home and locked herself in her room without saying a word."

Maxwell replied, "Thank you, ma'am. I'll go check on her."

With that, Maxwell started up the stairs.

Maxwell's footsteps grew louder and louder as he climbed the stairs.
