I blocked all future rent withdrawals but allowed Monday’s payment to go through.

Beth would avoid an immediate lease violation. She would also have thirty days to find a new payment method or another guarantor.

The account manager printed a new confirmation.

“There isn’t enough available money in the joint account,” she said. “Your mortgage and insurance are also due Monday. The account will be overdrawn if everything clears.”

The birthday party had taken most of the remaining balance.

“I get paid Friday,” Owen said. “I can replace it then.”
