That familiar scent of his closed over me, and I could not move in his arms. My face went hot, and I could not tell whether it was the running or the man.

"There are still people out here. Let go of me," I said, putting up exactly as much fight as I wanted to.

Louis pushed his face into my neck and locked both arms around my waist, and he pulled me in tighter and shook his head. "Then I'll have Toto eat them."

I took a breath and patted his head. "Be good."
