The next week, I took annual leave.

I didn't go back to my hometown.

Instead, I went to the city hall in the neighboring county, the place where Emily's first marriage was registered.

I asked for the records, saying my own marital status had been affected.

A few days later, the results came back.

Emily got married in June 2016 and got divorced by mutual consent in November 2016.

Her ex-husband was Jason.

She was eighteen back then.

Divorce reason: they couldn't get along.

I made another trip to the bank.

I checked the credit card account using my ID.
