At the Peninsula Hotel, in the private dining room of the presidential suite, Richard was in a black suit that night, his hair slicked back, giving him a sharp, polished look.

The table was covered with roses and candles, feeling like something straight out of a romance show.

"Seven years," Richard said, raising his wine glass and locking eyes with me. "Marrying you is the best thing that's ever happened to me in my life."
