Chapter 1
Four years after Kamden Ross, the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, severed our mate bond, the pack’s announcement board was flooded with news of his generous eight-million-dollar donation to a charity for sick pups. I sat by my son Micah’s bedside, his small body frail and hooked up to machines, and reluctantly dialed Kamden’s number.
"Alpha Ross," I began, my voice trembling, "could you please find it in your heart to lend me forty thousand dollars?"
There was a pause on the other end, followed by a cold, mocking laugh:
"When I was on the brink of death, you didn’t think twice before rejecting our bond. And now you have the audacity to ask for money?”
"If you're that desperate, why not sell a kidney?"
What he didn’t know was that when he needed a kidney transplant, I had already donated one of mine to him. Now it was our son who needed a healthy kidney.
Before I could answer, Kamden abruptly hung up.
I had kept my distance from him for four years and wouldn’t have reached out if it weren't for Micah’s illness leaving me no other choice. As an Omega in the pack, I’d spent all my savings on the hospital bills but still couldn’t come up with the forty thousand needed for surgery.
Just when I was at my wits' end, a messenger from the pack’s charity organization reached out to me.
"Alpha Ross agreed to donate the money, but he wants to personally verify your pup’s condition."
After the bond was severed, I’d blocked all of Kamden’s contact details, and we hadn’t seen each other since.
That afternoon, Kamden showed up at the hospital with Estelle Alexander, the daughter of a powerful Alpha who had been after him for years. He still looked as commanding as ever, his broad frame towering over me, his muscles taut beneath his tailored suit. But his gaze towards me was cold, his Alpha aura pressing down on me like a weight.
"We’ve been apart for four years, and you already have a four-year-old pup."
He glanced at Micah on the bed, kept alive by a ventilator.
"So, this is why you insisted on rejecting our bond back then."
His look was as penetrating as shards of ice, as if he wanted to see right through me.
I bowed my head, my Omega instincts urging me to submit, pleading with all the humility I could summon.
"I need forty thousand dollars. Everyone calls you a philanthropist; could you please help me?"
Kamden's anger surged, and he gripped my chin tightly, forcing me to meet his gaze. His Alpha tone was sharp, cutting through the air like a blade.
"Ellis, do you think I'm as low as you?"
"Do you think I'd save a pup born from the she-wolf who betrayed me?"
Estelle stood by, her golden hair cascading over her shoulders, her presence as regal as ever. She tugged at Kamden’s sleeve, her voice soft but laced with venom.
"Alpha Ross, even if Ellis betrayed you, the pup is innocent."
"Forty thousand is nothing. If she’s asking you for it, it must mean the father can’t afford it. She must have had a hard time these past years."
Of course, Estelle wasn’t genuinely trying to help me. Her words were a not-so-subtle reminder to Kamden that this pup was fathered by another wolf.
With Estelle stoking the fire, Kamden shoved me away, his Alpha aura flaring.
"Estelle is right. Doesn’t the pup have a father? Let him find the pup’s sire for the money."
I lowered my eyes, holding back the tears that welled up. My wolf whimpered in the back of my mind, a faint echo of the pain that had never truly left me.
Kamden used to love me deeply and wouldn’t let me endure any discomfort. Back then, he was just a young Alpha trying to prove himself, yet he promised to give me the best life possible.
He worked relentlessly, to the point of overexerting himself.
When the pack’s Healer diagnosed him with kidney failure, I was utterly devastated.
We had just poured all our money into the pack’s expansion; we had nothing left. The hospital bills were like a bottomless pit.
In my darkest hour, Estelle came to me.
Estelle was from a powerful pack and had liked Kamden for a long time. She told me to donate my kidney to Kamden and disappear. She’d cover all of Kamden’s medical expenses.
