Chapter 6
The smile on my lips had barely faded when Kendrick's expression changed.
His sharp silver eyes narrowed the instant he heard Damian's words through the phone.
"The documents are ready."
"I'll bring them up now."
There was only one kind of document a lawyer personally delivered.
Property division.
Divorce.
Something dark flashed across Kendrick's face.
Before I could react, he strode forward.
His hand shot out, and with a violent crack, my phone flew from my grasp and slammed against the hallway wall.
The screen shattered instantly.
Fragments scattered across the polished floor.
Aurora gasped.
"Kendrick!"
Even the two pack warriors stiffened.
I slowly lowered my empty hand, staring at the broken phone for a long moment before lifting my eyes to him.
He was breathing heavily.
The Alpha scent rolling off him had become oppressive enough to make the air feel heavy.
"You hired a lawyer?"
His voice was frighteningly calm.
Too calm.
"Yes."
"You want a divorce?"
"Yes."
The hallway fell into complete silence.
A knock came from the elevator a few seconds later.
Damian stepped out, carrying a manila envelope beneath one arm.
He took in the tense atmosphere with one glance before quietly walking toward me.
"Ms. Moretti."
I accepted the envelope from him.
"Thank you."
Without another word, Damian stepped aside.
Aurora reached over and helped me gather the shattered remains of my phone before placing them on the nearby console table.
Then she handed me the envelope.
I slowly broke the seal.
One page.
Two.
Three.
A thick stack of papers slid into my hands.
Holding them up, I looked directly at Kendrick.
"Sign it."
His gaze fell onto the first page.
Across the top, several bold words stood out unmistakably.
Divorce Agreement.
The hallway seemed to freeze.
Disbelief spread slowly across Kendrick's face.
He looked from the agreement...
To me...
Then back again.
For the first time since I had met him twelve years ago...
He looked genuinely shocked.
"You actually filed for divorce."
His voice sounded almost unfamiliar.
I said nothing.
His brows pulled together tightly.
"Evelyn."
"Is all of this..."
He gestured toward the papers.
"...because of a misunderstanding?"
"A misunderstanding?"
I almost laughed.
"You think this is a misunderstanding?"
"You were fired."
"I'll deal with Avery."
"The company needs you."
"You don't have to make such a big issue out of something so trivial."
Trivial.
That single word pierced deeper than any silver blade ever could.
I let out a quiet laugh.
"So..."
"I spent twelve years being reasonable."
"When Quinn Corporation had no money to pay its employees, I sold the house my parents left me and quietly filled the financial gap without asking you for a single coin in return."
"That was me being reasonable."
"When the company needed outside investors, you said hiding our marriage would make negotiations easier."
"So I gave up my identity as your Luna and stayed in the shadows."
"That was me being reasonable."
"When rumors surrounded you and one she-wolf after another appeared beside you, you told me they were only business partners."
"So I remained silent."
"That was me being reasonable too."
Every sentence made Kendrick's expression darken further.
"I spent twelve years doing what everyone called the right thing."
I looked directly into his eyes.
"And what did I receive in return?"
"You telling me I've changed?"
A bitter smile appeared on my lips.
"No."
"Kendrick."
"It was spending twelve years being reasonable..."
"...that turned me into a joke."
Silence swallowed the hallway.
He opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
Avery, who had remained quietly behind him the entire time, suddenly stepped forward.
"Alpha Kendrick..."
"I think Ms. Moretti is only acting emotionally right now. Once the company—"
"Enough."
Kendrick's voice exploded through the hallway.
The Alpha command instinctively forced everyone except me to stiffen.
Even Avery's face went white.
"I didn't ask for your opinion."
She immediately lowered her head.
"Yes... Alpha."
I watched the scene calmly.
How ironic.
When Avery humiliated me inside Quinn Corporation, Kendrick had never been there to stop her.
Now...
His anger finally surfaced.
Only it was already too late.
He slowly turned back toward me.
"Evelyn."
"I'll investigate everything that happened."
"If Avery wronged you, she'll answer for it."
"I'll also restore your position inside Quinn Corporation."
His voice softened slightly.
"So stop making trouble."
I quietly shook my head.
"I don't want my position back."
His brows furrowed again.
"What do you want?"
Without answering, I lifted the agreement between us.
The papers rustled softly in the wind drifting through the hallway.
"Sign it."
His jaw tightened.
"The financial department is still waiting."
"They need you."
"I know."
"The stock has already dropped."
"I know."
"The Pack Council is questioning our financial reports."
"I know."
Every answer remained calm.
Almost indifferent.
His patience finally snapped.
"So what exactly do you want?"
I met his gaze without the slightest hesitation.
"I'll fix Quinn Corporation."
"I'll stabilize every account."
"I'll personally resolve every discrepancy."
A flicker of relief crossed his eyes.
Then I finished speaking.
"After you sign the divorce agreement."
His expression froze.
I continued evenly,
"Once the agreement is signed, I'll return as an external consultant."
"I'll complete the month-end reconciliation."
"I'll repair every system."
"And when everything is finished..."
"I'll leave."
His breathing grew heavier.
"So you're using the company to threaten me."
"I'm giving you a choice."
I held the agreement out another inch.
"Sign it."
"Or watch Quinn Corporation continue collapsing."
His silver eyes locked onto mine.
"You'd really abandon the company you built with your own hands?"
"The company?"
A faint smile appeared on my face.
"It stopped belonging to me a long time ago."
"When Quinn Corporation prepared to go public, I transferred every original share I owned to you without asking for compensation."
"I gave up my voting rights."
"My position."
"My ownership."
"My future."
I looked at him quietly.
"From that day onward..."
"It became your company."
"Not mine."
The agreement remained suspended between us.
Neither of us moved.
The hallway had become so silent that even our breathing sounded unnaturally loud.
Kendrick stared at the divorce papers for what felt like an eternity.
His hand never reached for them.
And mine… Never lowered them.
