Chapter 5

Irene jerked her head up to look at me, and for a second, she couldn't hide the icy chill in her gaze.

"You're recording? That's against hospital policy!" she snapped, leaping for the recorder in my hand, trying to snatch it away.

Before I could even say a word, my mom rushed over. "Hey, who the hell are you?! My daughter's a patient. Have you no shame, snatching things from a sick girl?"

She pressed something into my hand and shoved Irene aside.

Del darted forward to catch Irene, gazing at her with obvious worry and tenderness. "Are you okay?"
