Chapter 1
A well-known quip circulates through the elite circles in Westland: No one has ever snatched anything from the Kane Family's grasp, and conversely, whatever they wanted, they took by any means necessary.
That night at the Manor Gala in Zura, a camera captured a scene that sent the room into an uproar.
Elliot Kane, the legendary football icon, reached out and seized the slender wrist of the Eastland beauty in the crimson gown before dozens of political and business elites and international media.
At that moment, the engagement ring of a family-arranged alliance still gleamed on her ring finger.
Some whispered that he was a home-wrecker, throwing his weight around to bully the weak.
More muttered that she was an ambitious social climber who had betrayed her betrothal to rise above her station.
The blond man leaned in close, his voice low and sweeping with absolute dominion.
"Their rules don't apply to us. From this moment on, you belong to me."

It was the height of summer in Zura, and a cool evening breeze drifted through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the private manor nestled halfway up the mountain.
Clara Sterling stood at the edge of the terrace, her fingertips gently sliding over the chilled glass of her water cup.
She had recently finished the Zura stop of her classical dance tour in Westland. The troupe finally got a rare three-day break.
While most of her fellow dancers went off to explore the city, Clara found the bustle unpleasant and asked the troupe manager to arrange this private manor for her quiet retreat.
The Sterling Family had been deeply engaged in classical dance for generations with rich heritage. Her ancestors were top dance educators in Eastland, and her parents were both internationally acclaimed dancers.
Perhaps influenced by her family, Clara had loved classical dance since childhood and possessed outstanding talent. She'd always worked hard at it.
As soon as she turned eighteen, her family arranged a marriage with the Hart Family, their long-time family friends. Her fiancé, Lucas Hart, was gentle and refined, and their families were a perfect match. To outsiders, he was the ideal husband.
But only Clara knew the truth. There was no spark, no love between her and Lucas.
They'd never held hands or had a heart-to-heart talk. They saw each other only a few times a year, and their texts were so polite that it was like they were strangers.
Clara didn't know what love was, or what it felt like to have her heart skip a beat. Perhaps that was fine, she thought. She loved dancing; nothing else mattered, did it?
Her phone lit up with a message from Lucas.
It read: [Did the show go well? I'll be back next week. Our parents are sorting out the engagement details.]
Clara glanced down, her fingers hesitating for a second before she typed back: [Okay.]
She had no excess emotion, nor any expectation.
For Clara, this engagement was nothing more than a predetermined step in her life, unrelated to love.
"You don't seem very happy, Miss Sterling," A deep, magnetic male voice suddenly came from behind her.
It was a languid, husky voice with a Westland accent, so rich and commanding that it carried effortlessly through the air.
Clara whipped around.
The man lounged casually in the archway of the terrace. He was tall and lean, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, and dressed in loose black lounge pants and a crisp white T-shirt, with a thin brace wrapped around his right leg.
His appearance was characterized by slightly messy blonde hair, sharp eyes, distinctive Westland features, and a sharply defined jawline.
It was Elliot Kane.
He was the hottest name in Westland soccer, and the only heir to the Kane Family.
The Kane family had been deeply rooted in Westland business and football for decades, and their influence extended into the upper echelons across half of Westland. They were a true top-tier family.
Elliot himself had achieved fame at a young age; by twenty-three, he had already won all major soccer awards and was celebrated by fans everywhere as a legend of the sport.
A week ago, he had injured his leg badly in the league finals and retreated to his family's manor in Zura, turning away the press and any visitors.
Clara never imagined that the owner of this private manor would be Elliot Kane.
She composed herself and gave a polite nod. "Sorry for disturbing your recovery, Mr. Kane. I already confirmed with the butler that I had permission to stay here. If I'm intruding, I'll leave immediately."
Elliot walked over slowly, his steps clearly hindered by his leg injury. His gaze was direct and frank, lingering on her delicate, gentle features as he took her in without disguise.
"No need to leave," Elliot said with a low chuckle, his eyes locking onto the faint confusion in her gaze. "This manor is far too quiet on its own. Having someone around brings it to life."
Clara kept her tone polite but distant. "Thank you for letting me stay. I'll keep to myself and make sure I don't bother you."
"You're Clara Sterling?" Elliot suddenly asked.
Clara froze for a second, surprised. "Wait, you know who I am?"
"Yes, I watched the live stream of your classical dance show at the Grand Theater last week," Elliot said, casually leaning against the railing. "Your Moonlit River performance was stunning."
Clara never expected that a renowned soccer superstar like Elliot Kane would watch a classical dance performance.
"Thank you," Clara replied.
"Relax," Elliot said, raising an eyebrow, his tone casual. "I'm not a reporter. I won't bother you. I did not expect that the heiress of the leading dance family in Eastland would be hiding alone in a manor, lost in her own thoughts."
Clara felt a stir in her heart. Everyone saw her as the talented heiress with a perfect life, but nobody knew the weight of being trapped by an arranged engagement.
