Chapter 3

My mind was still in a haze when I got home.

Richard was there again.

I really wasn't in the mood to talk to him, so I bent down to change my shoes.

"Catherine, why were you with Uncle Oscar?" Richard asked.

"We happened to cross paths," I replied, not really caring.

He suddenly gripped my wrist, his hold tight and abrupt.

Richard's eyes were oddly intense, his voice cold and rigid. "Is it really a coincidence? Isn't he always busy?"

I silently pulled my hand free, not bothering to respond.

The white bandage on my wrist was exposed.
