Matt Lawson has a pretty new linemate, and Nikolai Voronov, captain of the Detroit Wolves, is not handling it well. Since a trade brought a towering young Valdorian winger from Oklahoma to the Halifax Huskies, the rookie has been glued to Matt's hip both on and off the ice. Their instant chemistry lights up highlight reels, and hockey Echo is absolutely obsessed with them. Nikolai tells himself it doesn't matter. He and Matt have been hooking up casually for months whenever their teams cross paths, no strings, no feelings, just sex. But when Nikolai accidentally clips Lawson during a faceoff and sends him crashing into the boards, the pretty Valdorian rookie drops the gloves and knocks Nikolai flat on the ice. Suddenly the whole league has an opinion about Nikolai's performance, including his own brother. That night, Matt still invites Nikolai over. What follows is the hottest night they've ever spent together, complete with a pair of reading glasses Matt never mentioned, hickeys deliberately placed where his new teammate will see them, and a confession whispered in Muscovite that Nikolai didn't know Matt could understand. The problem is, Nikolai is starting to realize that what's between them doesn't feel so casual anymore, and he has no idea what to do about it.
