Norman said, "Emily's place lost power. She's terrified of the dark, and the windows are barely holding up. I was worried something might happen, so I came over to help her out.

"About your mom, isn't there anyone else you can call? I can't leave right now. Emily's freaking out."

My hand was shaking so hard I could barely hold the phone, my nails digging into my palm.

"Norman, that's my mom! She could die! Emily's just afraid of the dark!" I yelled.

Norman raised his voice and snapped, "Claire! Do you have to be so pushy all the time?
