Chapter 1
My boyfriend, Connor Grant, was disabled in a car accident. He cheated on me while I was away on a business trip.
My heart felt numb. I said, "I'm tired. Let's break up."
Connor was slightly taken aback, then nodded calmly. "Okay."
As I turned to leave, a flood of comments popped up.
[The female lead, Saniyah Foster, is so clever, making the female side character, Vanessa Bell, think the male lead, Connor Grant, cheated and walk away on her own. No wonder she's the ace conqueror!]
[If Vanessa knew Connor would not only recover but also become a trillion-dollar tech mogul, she'd be sick with regret!]
[But isn't Vanessa pregnant? Is she really going to have the baby?]
[Relax, Saniyah won't let her make it to delivery. Plus, Connor's been hurt too badly. Even if she does manage to have the kid, he'll never forgive her.]
I turned back, tears streaming down my face as I looked at Connor. "Connor, did you ever actually love me?"
*****
Connor froze, staring at me in shock.
Seeing him stay silent, I grew even angrier and accused him, "I knew it. You never forgot your first love. Being with me was settling for less!"
It took Connor a moment to respond. He looked serious as he explained, "I ended things with Aimee a long time ago, and I don't like her anymore.
"Of course, I'm with you because I like you!"
I hooked my foot under the couch and pulled out a condom, glaring at him as I demanded, "Then why did you do this to me?"
Connor stared at the condom on the floor. His expression was a mix of shock and utter confusion.
After a long pause, he finally looked up at me and said with certainty, "I have no idea why that's even here!"
I crossed my arms and let out a cold snort. "You've been the only one at home these past few days. If you don't know, who would?"
Connor met my gaze, his conscience clear. "Whether you believe me or not, I swear I never did anything to betray you!"
I pretended to think for a moment. "Did anyone else come over to the house these past few days?"
Connor paused, then shook his head. "No."
I jabbed a finger at the condom on the floor, my tone sharp. "So where did it come from? It didn't magically appear here, did it?"
Connor stared at me, totally speechless.
He looked desperate to explain, but couldn't even get a word out.
We stood there in silence for a while, the tension hanging thick in the air.
As I was about to give him an out, Connor's eyes suddenly turned cold and mocking.
He said, "We're already broken up, so it doesn't matter where it came from.
"I've held you back this past year. I've got 15 thousand dollars in my account. I'll transfer 10 thousand dollars to you."
I instantly snapped, "What do you mean by that?"
Connor looked at me, his voice so cold it sent a chill down my spine.
"Nothing. I realized I might be stuck like this for the rest of my life. You're young and beautiful. You deserve a better future," he said.
I stared at him in disbelief. "I dare you to say that again!"
Connor turned his face away, his voice gentle but firm. "Don't throw your life away on me. Let's break up."
My nose stung, and hot tears spilled down my cheeks.
I wanted to lose it, but I swallowed my anger and held back.
"What if I don't want to?" I asked.
Connor was silent for a few seconds before saying, "Think it over."
With that, he wheeled himself into the study.
As soon as the door slammed shut, I couldn't hold it in anymore. My tears poured down like rain.
[Honestly thought Saniyah's scheme was doomed, but Connor actually figured Vanessa was putting on a show to dump him and look all high and mighty.
[Now he's even more heartbroken!]
[Talk about a lucky break. Saniyah's efforts totally paid off.]
[Hope Vanessa gets booted soon.]
