Chapter 3
The moment Chloe set foot in the company, she started picking on Olivia with her new general manager title.
She told Olivia to pour her a glass of water right in front of everyone, making a little show out of it.
Olivia wasn't happy about it, and Andrew kicked her out, claiming she was being defiant.
Olivia didn't tell me about it—guess she didn't want me freaking out.
It was that wretched Chloe who swaggered over to confront me, arms crossed, with a smug grin on her face, looking so proud of herself.
She sneered, "Katherine, I thought you'd be tough. But as soon as I made a move, you folded. Pathetic. You're nothing but a worthless mess.
"Don't tell me you're still pinning your hopes on that useless daughter of yours saving the day? Let me fill you in—she's not just fired.
"I tossed her off to a poor country. Girl's got the looks, so I lined up a sweet gig for her—flat on her back, keeping men happy. Consider this my special little present for my half-sister."
She looked even more pleased with herself, drilling me with those dagger-eyed stares from outside the cell, determined to get under my skin.
She sneered. "What, wishing you could hit me, are you? Bitch, even if you had a hundred times more courage, you wouldn't dare lay a finger on me."
She reached into her bag, pulled out a document, and threw it at me without a second thought.
"Sign it. Don't push your luck. My mom's too soft, and my dad's too stuck in old times to deal with you. But me? I've got tons of ways to make your life hell."
I picked up the document from the ground and stared at it. It was a divorce agreement that would make me leave with nothing.
I ripped the document into tiny pieces and flung them at Chloe's smirking face. "You little bastard, you think you can mess with me? You're still wet behind the ears."
Her eyes nearly popped out of her head, brimming with fury. Chloe spat out her words through clenched teeth. "Just you wait, old thing. One day, you'll sign that agreement on your own."
Just as she was about to leave, she tossed out another bombshell, her voice dripping with smug satisfaction.
She said, "Oh, guess what? Tomorrow I'm tying the knot with your daughter's fiancé. We're about to pull off the wedding of the century.
"I'm the true heir of the Shaw family, not your useless daughter. Once I marry the Lewis family's heir, you'll be begging me, crawling at my feet."
That little brat may have a few tricks, but her bag of tricks was pretty limited.
If she thought she could host her 'wedding of the century' without me and Olivia front and center, she'd got another thing coming.
That smug Chloe actually thought she'd shipped Olivia off to that poor country for good.
But little did she know, all it took was one call from me and Olivia was back before Chloe could even blink.
The Lewis and Shaw families had invited all the heavy hitters in the industry to their big day.
As soon as the ceremony began, I swaggered in with Olivia and dozens of bodyguards, making a show-stopping entrance.
Chloe, all dressed up in her wedding gown, looked like she'd been hit by a thunderbolt the moment she saw us. Her jaw dropped, and all the color drained from her face.
Andrew and Emily looked even worse.
Andrew shot me a warning glare, his brow furrowed in annoyance.
He snapped, "You're not welcome here. Try anything funny and I won't hesitate to call the police.
"Oh, and just so you know, I've already started divorce proceedings. Stop clowning around and get lost!"
Ryan Lewis, the groom, jumped in, acting all superior and looking down his nose.
He said, "Mrs. Shaw, look, I get it—last-minute bride swap like this must be a real punch in the gut for you.
"But you gotta face facts. This is how things turned out, and at this point, I've got no choice but to marry Chloe, not Olivia."
Olivia, looking utterly crushed, reached out and slapped him across the face.
She shot back at him, "Ryan, wow, you really turned out just great. After everything I gave you, it only took a few days for you to gang up on me with those bitches."
Even though Olivia and Ryan shared real feelings, in the end, he let status and self-interest come before their relationship.
Ryan, guilt written all over his face, kept his words soft. "I didn't have a choice. My family decided everything."
Andrew announced loud and clear to everyone present, "Sorry for all this spectacle, guys. Since everyone's gathered, I've got a major update to share."
He laced his fingers with Emily's and raised her hand for the world to see. "Let me introduce my wife, Emily. My relationship with Katherine? That ship sailed ages ago, and the divorce is already in progress.
"From today forward, Chloe is my only daughter. Katherine's got nothing to do with Shaw Group anymore, and every single penny of the Shaw family fortune will go to my one and only heir, Chloe."
The whole place buzzed with whispers, people casting us awkward glances or downright pitying stares.
I scoffed coldly, fixing Andrew with a steady, deliberate look.
I said, "You've been bottling this up for years, and now you just can't help yourself, huh? Go ahead, let me see how you're gonna throw me out with nothing to my name."
Chloe barked at the bodyguards, looking completely fed up.
"Why are you idiots just standing there? Haul these two lunatics off and lock them up in the psychiatric hospital," Chloe ordered, eyes flashing.
No sooner had she finished than her guards rushed at us, but my own bodyguards jumped in, staring them down and blocking their way.
Just then, Andrew's phone started ringing. He checked the caller ID—his right-hand man—and answered immediately.
His right-hand man's voice came through, shaky and panicked. "Mr. Shaw, this is bad. The shareholders and all the big investors have just voted to kick you out of Shaw Group.
"They've made it official that Mrs. Shaw is now the only one in charge. Chloe's out, too. And they're broadcasting the news live."
The next moment, the big screen in the hall flashed with the breaking story. Let them watch and learn who was really in charge here.
