Chapter 1
I was in a car accident with my sister, Maisie.
My heart was torn apart and I needed surgery right away.
But my mom, the hospital director, called every doctor to Maisie's room to give her a full checkup from head to toe, even though she only had a few minor scrapes.
I pleaded with my mom to help me, but she just looked annoyed and snapped, "Is this really the time to fight for attention? Don't you know Maisie almost hurt her bone?"
In the end, I died alone in a forgotten corner.

In the last three minutes before I died, my soul floated to my mom's side.
She was sitting by Maisie's bed, worry etched all over her face as she prayed softly, "Maisie, don't scare me; please wake up."
My dad's face was twisted with rage. "If that bitch Carmen had done her job, Maisie wouldn't be lying here like this. Just wait, I'll make her pay."
I just stood there, watching them, bitterness welling up inside me.
Dad, you don't need to lift a finger. I'm already gone.
It was your coldness that finished me off.
The doctors formed a circle around Maisie's bed.
After confirming it was just a minor bone injury and nothing serious, one of the older doctors finally spoke up, nervously asking, "Director, shouldn't we check on Carmen? Her injuries seem pretty severe."
My mom's expression shifted from concern to outright disgust as she shouted, "Is she putting on another act? Is she pretending to be dead now? Does she even realize how much she's hurt Maisie?"
I stared blankly at my mom, and even though my heart was already dead, it suddenly throbbed with pain.
I'm their daughter too. Do they really not care about me, not even a little?
Suddenly, my mom grabbed her phone and dialed my number.
The nurse pressed the phone to my ear, and instead of the concern I desperately wanted, all I got was the same old scolding. "Carmen, when are you finally going to drag yourself over here and apologize to Maisie?"
That was the moment my heart turned to ice. I stopped hoping for anything from her.
Yeah, she really doesn't care about me at all.
No surprising. When I was first brought into the hospital, I begged my mom to save me, but all she left me with was, "Can't you pick a better time to fight for attention? Don't you know Maisie almost hurt her bone?" Then she walked away with all the doctors, never even looking back, just to take care of Maisie.
She never cared about me at all.
The nurse couldn't take it anymore and grabbed the phone. "Director, Carmen really is about to die."
But my mom, still convinced I was just causing trouble, sneered, "So, how much did that brat pay you to help her put on this show? I never thought that brat could pull something like this!"
Just then, Maisie, who had been faking unconsciousness for ages, finally "woke up," putting on a weak voice. "Dad, Mom, how's Carmen?"
My mom looked at the sweet, obedient Maisie lying in bed, her expression turning even more disgusted. "Carmen, can't you be a little more sensible like her? She's in this state because of you, and she's still worried about you. If you don't come over and apologize to Maisie in three minutes, don't ever show your face to me again!"
My mom hung up the phone, her chest heaving with anger.
My dad stood next to her, looking annoyed. "Why bother calling her? Isn't it enough that she already ruined Maisie's life?"
Maisie couldn't hide her smug look, but she quickly lowered her head, putting on a face full of guilt as she looked at our parents. "Mom, Dad, please don't be mad. Carmen's still upset about me taking her spot to study abroad. She has every right to blame me."
I couldn't help but find it all so pathetic.
Even after I was dead, Maisie was still trying to drive a wedge between me and our parents.
But of course, my parents would never see through her.
In their eyes, Maisie would always be the obedient, well-behaved one, while I was just the troublemaker.
They would never even consider that it was Maisie, their precious daughter, who pushed me out into the street and caused that accident.
