The next day, Michael showed up again.

He drove a massive SUV.

I only had one suitcase and two cardboard boxes.

Without saying much, he grabbed everything and carried it downstairs as if it were nothing.

His place, which was now my new home, was in a fancy neighborhood on the east side of the city.

It had three bedrooms and two living rooms, all decked out in a minimalist style.

It was spotless, but it felt a little too quiet and empty.
