Chapter 3

That night, I couldn't move out.

It wasn't because of Ronnie's security system. I had left my car keys at the office, and the ride-hailing app wouldn't work.

I called for a ride three times, but nothing came through.

I couldn't tell if Ronnie had messed with it or if I was unlucky, but either way, I had to spend another night at the Andersons' place.

I slept in the guest room and locked the door.

At two in the morning, I heard footsteps outside my door. They were light, as if someone were moving up and down the hallway.
