Lucas, still groggy, rubbed his eyes.

"Mommy, what's that noise?" he mumbled.

The man scrambled out of the room in a panic.

I gently patted Lucas on the back, just going with the flow. "Go to sleep, sweetheart."

Lucas burrowed into my arms and soon drifted off again.

That man came back in, scowling and pulling on his nightclothes.

He stood at the foot of the bed, shooting me a resentful look before glaring at Lucas, who was still curled up in my arms.

"If they're sleeping in your bed, where am I supposed to sleep?" he grumbled.
