The day after Charlotte's reinstatement, she came to my chambers, one hand resting gently on the subtle curve of her belly.

Charlotte's smile was sweet as poison. "Dear Evelyn, there is no need for such nerves. I merely came to hang a blessing plaque for my child in your courtyard. For good fortune."
