Chapter 2
Myra tucked herself behind Alex, a sly grin spreading across her face.
In the next moment, she snatched up the fruit knife from the table and cut her own wrist.
Myra screamed and dropped to the floor.
Seeing that Myra was only slightly hurt, Alex and his mother. who had been cornering me just seconds ago. rushed over as if they'd lost their minds.
"Myra!" Alex shouted.
In a panic, Alex pulled her into his arms, pressing his left hand tightly over her wrist where a thin line of blood was starting to seep out.
I gave a bitter smile. I knew that Myra was playing the suicide card again.
She never got tired of the same old trick.
Pandora was beside herself, her eyes filled with heartbreak. "Myra, why would you do something so foolish?"
Myra bit her lip, her eyes full of wounded innocence as she softly sobbed.
She whimpered, "Everyone online is saying I was the one who hosted that sex party. They're calling me filthy now.
"Alex, how am I supposed to go on after this?
"Just let me die. I don't want to drag the Fox family down, or be your dead weight.
"But I never did anything like that. Someone drugged me."
She practically spat out the word "drugged," then glanced up at me, her eyes full of accusation.
Alex pulled her closer, his grip tightening protectively as he gently brushed away her tears.
He said softly, "Don't be scared, Myra. I am here. I'll keep you safe.
"It's okay, Myra. I'll find out the truth, and whoever did this to you is going to pay, I promise."
Pandora's eyes darted around, then she suddenly yanked me so hard I nearly lost my balance.
"Was it you? You've never liked Myra, have you? You just can't stand to see her and Alex be close, can you?" she snapped.
She raised her hand and slapped me hard across the face.
"You vicious, heartless witch," she spat.
My face stung like hell, and I cried out, my voice cracking with hurt.
"I didn't do it!" I shouted.
Alex suddenly shot me a dark look, gritting his teeth.
He snapped, "Thalia, was it you? Myra's always been a little dramatic, but you've always resented her, haven't you? Are you really that cruel, trying to push her over the edge?
"If I find out you did this, you'll regret it.
"That's it. We will announce that you were the one who hosted that sex party. Don't even try to deny it or play games."
With that, he scooped Myra up in his arms and rushed out the door, heading straight for the hospital.
As he passed me, he bumped into me on purpose, knocking me aside.
I froze, my breath catching in my throat. I opened my mouth, but no sound came out.
It had been eight years since we started dating back in college. Yet, I felt like I'd never truly understood him.
He never believed in me, not even once.
All along, I was just an outsider.
Ever since Pandora first met me, she never liked me.
She'd flood her social media with videos every single day, making it obvious she saw Myra as her ideal daughter-in-law.
To her, they were the perfect family.
There were videos of Alex giving Myra a piggyback ride, serving her food, and Myra hiding in his arms while watching horror movies.
The two of them were practically glued together, always acting like a couple.
Pandora'd even written in the caption: [If only Myra could be my daughter-in-law.]
Later, she even wrote another caption: [My son and Myra make such a perfect couple.]
Those happy moments of theirs were like daggers to my eyes. It hurt just to look at them.
Back then, I'd throw a little fit and ask Alex about it.
At first, he'd patiently explain things to me.
But later, he'd just brush me off and say, "Myra's just my sister."
He'd even say I was overreacting.
He said he'd love me and dote on me for a lifetime.
It turned out that I was just fooling myself.
If he really cared about me, he would not stand by and watch my name get dragged through the mud, leaving me to live in shame, never able to hold my head up again.
